Czech Republic

Euro 2004 Home | Squad | Star Player | Key Man

The Czech Republic have become one of the strongest forces in the European game and were one of the most impressive qualifiers to the finals. In Nedved they have a footballing genius who is surrounded by a solid powerfull team and other skillfull individuals such as Tomas Rosicky. I think they will qualify from the group of death and could go all the way. No team will enjoy facing the Czechs.

Star Player

Pavel Nedved can rightly count himself among the handful of truely great footballers of his generation. Few people would overlook him for the left sided midfield position in their World XI and he could claim to be the best Czech player of all time. It has been a disappointing season with Juventus so he'll be keen to make up for it this summer and the Czechs have a real chance of success.

He's the Czech captain and current European footballer of the Year so opponents will know all about him but few will be able to cope with his trickery and venomous shot. Expect him to be one of the stars this summer.

Key Man One of the contenders to be top scorer in portugal must surely be the Czech Republic's Jan Koller. The bean-pole striker is more than just a target man and will be too hot to handle for many defenders. We can look forward to an interesting contest with Holland's Jaap Stam.

Koller has fantastic ball skills for a big man, and can finish well from both inside and outside the box. His club side, Borussia Dortmund, have struggled this season so the Euro 2004 matches will come as a bit of light relief for him. The Czech Republic expects, and so do many other observers.
